Earning Points
Published 31 Jul 2026
You decide how viewers build up points. Open the Users page and click the gear icon at the top to open Points Settings.
Every option starts at zero except the tip multiplier, so nothing is awarded until you turn it on.
The Options
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Tip multiplier | Each tip's value is multiplied by this number and added to the viewer's balance. Set to 0 to stop tips awarding points. | 1 |
| Points per follow | A one-off award the first time someone follows. Repeat follows never earn points. | 0 |
| Points per subscription | Awarded for any new, renewed or gifted subscription, on every platform. | 0 |
| Points per chat message | Awarded each time a viewer you already know sends a chat message. | 0 |
| Watchtime points | Awarded on a repeating timer to viewers who have been active recently. Set to 0 to turn off. | 0 |
| Watchtime interval (seconds) | How often watchtime points are given out. Minimum 60 seconds. | 300 (5 minutes) |
Click Save when you are done.
How Each One Works
Tips
Tips are the only source that works out of the box. A $5 tip with a multiplier of 1 gives 5 points. With a multiplier of 10 it gives 50.
Use a higher multiplier if you want round numbers to spend. A multiplier of 100 turns a $2.50 tip into 250 points, which reads better than 2.5.
Balances are held to two decimal places.
Follows
Only the first follow counts. If someone unfollows and follows again, they get nothing. This is deliberate, and works whether or not you have Block Repeat Follow Alerts turned on.
Subscriptions
Every subscription event awards the same flat amount, whether it is a new sub, a renewal or a gift. Tiers are not treated differently here. If you want tier-based awards, use the User: Modify Points action on an alert instead.
Chat messages
Awarded per message, to viewers who already have a record.
Chat points only work if Chat Message has been removed from Excluded Events for that account on the Platforms page. Otherwise TipLink never receives the message at all.
Note that chat points are given to viewers TipLink already knows. If you also want brand-new chatters to be created as records, leave Track Chat-Only Viewers on in Settings.
Be careful with the amount here. On a busy channel this fires hundreds of times an hour, so 1 point per message goes a long way.
Watch time
This is the "just be here" award. Every 5 minutes by default, TipLink gives points to every viewer who has been seen recently.
"Seen recently" means they produced an event inside the last interval, which in practice means they chatted, tipped, followed or subscribed. Someone watching in complete silence will not be counted, because no platform tells TipLink they are there.
Two things to know:
- The interval cannot be shorter than 60 seconds.
- Nobody is awarded twice inside the same interval.
Example: Watchtime points 10, interval 300. Anyone who has said something in the last five minutes gets 10 points, every five minutes.
A Suggested Starting Point
If you are not sure where to begin, this gives a balance that grows at a sensible pace:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Tip multiplier | 10 |
| Points per follow | 50 |
| Points per subscription | 200 |
| Points per chat message | 1 |
| Watchtime points | 5 |
| Watchtime interval | 300 |
Then price your redemptions so that a regular viewer can afford something after about an hour.
Changing the Numbers Later
Changing these settings only affects points earned from that moment on. Existing balances are left alone.
If you want to start everyone fresh, go to Settings, unlock the Danger Zone and use Clear All Users (Points).
Troubleshooting
Nobody is earning anything
Check the Points Settings values are above zero, and that the platform account is connected.
Chat points are not being awarded
Open that account's settings on the Platforms page and make sure Chat Message is not in the Excluded Events list.
Watch time is not awarding anyone
Watch time only counts viewers who have produced an event recently. If nobody is chatting, nobody is awarded. Try a longer interval.
I need to see exactly what is happening
Turn on Verbose Points & User Logging in Settings. This writes a line to the app log for every points decision. It is noisy, so turn it back off afterwards.
