Alert Sets

An Alert Set is a named group of alerts. Sets do two jobs: they keep a long alert list tidy, and they let you switch a whole group of alerts on or off in one click.

Sets Control Whether Alerts Fire

This is the important part.

• If an alert is not in any set, the set system never affects it.
• If an alert is in one or more sets, at least one of those sets must be enabled for the alert to fire.

So putting an alert in a disabled set stops it firing, even though the alert itself is still switched on.

Example

You have a set called Charity Stream containing five alerts. On a normal stream you disable the set, and none of those five alerts fire. On charity night you enable the set, and all five come back without touching them individually.

An alert in two sets

If an alert belongs to two sets, it fires as long as either set is enabled. Both need to be disabled to stop it.

Creating an Alert Set

1. Go to the Alerts page in the sidebar.
2. Click Manage Alert Sets at the top of the page.
3. Click Create New Set.
4. Type a name for the set, for example Fundraiser Alerts.

The name saves automatically as you type.

Adding Alerts to a Set

1. Open or create an Alert.
2. Find the Alert Set(s) field near the top.
3. Choose the set or sets this alert belongs to.
4. Save the alert.

An alert can belong to as many sets as you like.

Turning a Set On or Off

1. Go to the Alerts page and click Manage Alert Sets.
2. Find the set in the list.
3. Click Disable to switch the whole group off, or Enable to switch it back on.

You can also change a set from an alert, using the Toggle Alert Set action. That lets a viewer or an event switch a group of alerts on or off automatically. See Toggle Alert Set.

Reordering Sets

Drag a set up or down in the Manage Alert Sets list to change the order it appears in. This only affects the list itself, not which alerts fire first.

To change the order alerts fire in, reorder the alerts on the Alerts page instead. See Triggers.

Filtering the Alerts Page

1. On the Alerts page, click the Filter button in the top toolbar.
2. Choose the set you want to view.

Only alerts in that set are shown. Choose the filter again to clear it and show everything.

Filtering only changes what you can see. It does not enable or disable anything.

Deleting a Set

In Manage Alert Sets, click Delete next to the set.

Deleting a set does not delete the alerts inside it. Those alerts stay exactly as they are, and are no longer gated by any set.

Tips

• Use a set per stream type, for example Regular Streams and Charity Events, then enable only the one you need.
• Use a set for anything you want to switch off quickly, such as device alerts you only run some nights.
• If an alert has stopped firing for no obvious reason, check whether it sits in a disabled set. The Event Testing Tool shows this as the Alert Set Enabled check.
